Why Buy a Vehicle in the U.S.A and Import it into Canada?
I have imported several vehicles into Canada over a number of years, and a common question I have had people ask me is “Why bother importing a vehicle into Canada from the USA”. Of course, I have my own reasons, for me it’s somewhat of a hobby of mine, it keeps me busy, it can be fun, I meet new people, get to travel.. ok ok.. The list goes on… But for the average person it’s quite simple. Importing a car into Canada can be a good idea for a couple of good reasons:
- Cost: Certain Vehicles in the USA have a lower resale value than in Canada.
- Availability: Certain Cars were never put on Canadian markets and yet are entirely admissible to Canada.
- Condition: In Canada, most provinces are required to use salt to de-ice the roads. In the USA, certain states where it does not regularly snow, they do not use salt on the roads and therefore cars do not rust, corrode and degrade nearly as fast.
I’m sure everyone has their own reason for importing a car into Canada. Heck, you could be getting a free car from your aunt or uncle who knows! But the three big reasons that drew me to importing vehicles into Canada were cost, availability and Condition.
