In order to import a Volvo vehicle into Canada, in addition to the regular steps you will take to import any vehicle, you will be required to obtain a “Letter of Admissibility” from Volvo North America. This step is unique to Volvo and a select few other manufacturers.

Obtaining a Volvo Letter of Admissibility is actually quite simple. If you are importing a Volvo into Canada, first, visit the Volvo Importing Information page on Volvo’s website. Once you are sure you are meeting all the requirements, you can fill out the Volvo Letter of Admissibility Request form. You will be required to enter your name, address, phone number, etc. as well as the VIN number of the vehicle.

Please note that this is a separate document from the Recall Clearance Letter that you will also be required to obtain.

Be sure to do this well in advance, as the request forms are processes on a first come first serve basis.

Obtaining a recall clearance letter is different for each manufacturer. Generally you can get them from an American dealership or by calling the Canadian manufacturer headquarters, but in some cases it is necessary to fill out certain request forms or pay certain fees. Mazda is one of these special cases.
